Sony launches PlayStation Rewards program

Sony plans to launch a loyalty program called PlayStation Rewards that allows players to earn exclusive rewards based on their activity within the PlayStation universe.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Sony says they will kick off the program by sending beta invitations to early adopters of PlayStation Plus and members of the Gamer Advisory Panel. The free program will be available to all PlayStation Network members next spring.

PlayStation Rewards breaks down into three tiers: Select, Pro and Legendary. Players navigate each tier based on their PlayStation 3 activity, such as playing new games, downloading Store items or taking surveys. Sony says the program will eventually expand to include the PlayStation Portable.

Perks include dynamic avatars and themes as well as members-only contests. The first mentioned is a sweepstakes where the winner gets a paid trip to next year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
